The Game Package
The Whirlitzer of Wisdom is a Macintosh Hypercard game, designed by Roger Allen, and released through ZBS Foundation. The game was (loosely) designed around concepts developed by the ZBS impresario Thomas Lopez/Meatball Fulton for the early Jack Flanders audio adventures (as played on NPR), and was wicked hard. The game disk setup started in February 1990, so this blog is celebrating the game's thirtieth anniversary.
The game came with 3 DD floppy disks, a very nice case, and an explorer's guide on very nice paper. The whole game had a luxe quality about it - to go with the price, $39.95 - a steep price for a game in 1990.
I would like to hear once again that musical intro, which was the first few bars of an old recording of "Am I Blue?"
ReplyDeleteYour wish is answered. I can't find the artist that did this version, none of the clips on YouTube fit. Not Ethel Waters, not Lauren Bacall, not Hoagy Carmichael, NOT Cher.
DeleteIt's the version by The Majestic Dance Orchestra featuring Billy Murray vocals. It's slightly sped up.

DeleteWell researched, Magnifico! Even with your info, I had to cast and re-cast to find it. The speed-up does add energy to the playback.
