A wonderful picture from the cover of the ZBS audio adventure Moon Over Morocco, of Jack Flanders emerging from the Gate of Peacocks, on his way to assuming his new identity as King Hassan Bizel - incorporated into the game here. I can smell the o-re-ange blossoms!
In 1982, author Byron Preiss came out with a book called The Secret, which presented 12 beautiful, involved pictures that provided clues to treasure keys buried in 12 cities in North America. The keys, when presented to representatives of the author and the publisher, would authorize the holders to be presented with a precious stone. To date, three of the 12 treasures have been claimed.
Josh Gates' show "Expedition Unknown" had one show that talked about the treasure situation in general, and another, recent show that documented the Boston treasure discovery.
This book may have influenced Roger Allen. In the course of following the game's "infinity" path, Allen says, "the creator of the Lotus Jukebox has placed many treasures in hidden places across the earth." I know for sure about instructions for one, and there may be a second one further on in the game - past where I know how to get to (so far). Allen does mention the famous Thomas Jefferson Beale treasure here, in passing - there will be much more about it, later on in the game.
However, Allen mentions mental, spiritual and material treasures. And we will see quite a few of the other two. After solving some puzzles (which are left to the explorer to solve, since they are too charmingly pictorial to give away here), Allen gives some exposition, leaving us with the guidance:
"Always remember, all paths lead from the Gateway" - so we don't have to wonder about hidden panels on the jukebox page.
And, Roger gives us one last clue - to select 'Lotus', then the eye to proceed on the next game path.
