Sounds of the Game
Apple has a utility that lets you inspect modules for content and allows you to pick out the sound clips used in Hypercard segments. My first exploit into Hypercard! The clip names are what Roger Allen used within the Hypercard script to play the audio clips, too.
Click on the item name to play the sound bite.
AhYes The Rakshasa from Fourth Tower of Inverness, responding to Jack answering a question
Blast A rather generic explosion sound, I haven't placed it in an audio adventure
Blue Is this the sound used for Jack on the Blue Swallow in Incredible Adventures?
Boing A standard Apple OS sound of a spring being released
Coin Your nickel just entered the Lotus Jukebox! Wowie-Zowie!
Crystal Not sure where this sound occurs, the sound of a crystal glass being pinged
Drum Need to revisit the Canon, I can't place this drum sound. Incredible Adventures?
Effect Very familiar, but can't place it. Moon Over Morocco?
Fart Used for when you can't ask the dog a question. As opposed to "Rasberry" coming up - which makes sense, a dog is carefree and unrestrained, whereas a person is - inhibited.
Flute Don't remember where this fits in
Howl Part of the intro of Fourth Tower - of course
Jukebox But it's not! It's the Comtese Zazeenia's mood music during Sunny's visit. Also part of the intro to Moon Over Morocco.
Keeptryin Far Seeing Art, encouraging Jack. Only dialog from a major character included.
Mirror The mirror theme from deep in the Inverness mansion
MoroccoD The Hypercard script calls out "Morocco", but there are two sound clips! This one is a drum sound, guess it must be in Moon Over Morocco.
MoroccoF This one is a flute sound, guess it must be in Moon Over Morocco
Open The sound that plays when Jack opens the door into the Fourth Tower
Rasberry Juicy!
Rio A theme from Dreams of Rio. Did Meatball give Roger Allen a pre-release clip?
Splat Not a good sound, means you are getting dumped out of the game.
Thunder Another bad sign. Roger built some hacking protection in. It's like he didn't trust us.
ZBS THE grand, luscious, synthesized ZBS theme used by NPR for all things ZBS. So of course Meatball got tired of it and got rid of it. *sigh*
"Effect" is another part of the synth music track "ZBS" used in the 1980s cassette tape version of Moon over Morocco. It's from near the end of it. Not sure if is a Tim Clark composition, or not. But, yes it's no longer used for Moon Over Morocco. I miss it.
ReplyDeleteJukebox is indeed the opening 'mood' music for Moon over Morocco. The exact track is from a (1929?) record "Am I Blue" played by The Majestic Dance Orchestra featuring Billy Murray. The recording is sped up about 2% with the pitch slightly changed, so I suspect it wasn't played back on a perfectly working gramophone.
